The
Elizabeth Day Program is operated by the Juvenile Justice
Commission and receives a grant funded through the Urban
League of Union County, Inc. |
| |
The
program operates from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. every Monday,
Tuesday and Thursday, and from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
on Wednesdays and Fridays. Twenty-five to 30 participants
from Union County are transported daily by staff. The
average length of stay is six to eight months. |
| |
The
program strives to improve self-esteem and develop a
sense of self worth among the participants. Through
shared experiences, group counseling and discipline,
each juvenile identifies alternative approaches to the
daily conflicts he she face. |
| |
Catholic
Charity Services and the Union County Adult High School
provide educational classes through a contractual agreement.
| |
Participants
complete two hours of community service daily. Currently,
work sites include Roselle Park Library, Linden Public
Works and Recreation Department, Newark Food Bank, Elizabeth
Animal Shelter and Cranford Library.
