The Liberty Park Hudson Day Program is located in Jersey City and serves the communities of Jersey City, Hoboken, Union City and Bayonne in Hudson County.
Every Monday through Friday participants are picked up from their homes between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Youth are returned to their homes between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
The goals of the Liberty Park Hudson Day Program are to help the participants improve their self-esteem, attain personal and educational goals, and establish sound work ethics.
During the day, juveniles are assigned to one of three work sites: building maintenance, culinary arts or recycling. The culinary program provides juveniles with basic food preparation skills taught by a certified institutional trade instructor. These skills can be used at home and to gain entry level employment in the food services industry. The juveniles are taught the procedures for buying and cooking a nutritionally balanced meal while adhering to basic safety and sanitary work methods. Paper recycling takes place throughout the buildings and grounds of Jersey City State College. Youth also provide the building maintenance for the JJC's Northern Regional Office and the Liberty Park Hudson Day Program. Participants are also taught minor repair skills, painting and office furniture assembly.
Youth sentenced to this day program also attend the Liberty Park “Twilight” School which aims to re-engage students in the learning process. The program operates from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. Monday through Friday.
